The third phase of trials of generic Propecia was carried out in a few years. The tests were conducted in 60 dermatological clinics (33 - in the U.S.) and on 1533 volunteer. Of this total, 1,215 volunteers have continued to participate in trials of Propecia for the second year. Age of participants - 18-41 years. The degree of baldness 3-5. All participants received 1mg of Propecia or placebo every day.

Subjective and objective measures were assessed by dermatologists who do not know what took their participants (Propecia or placebo).
The first year of testing showed these results:
- an increase in hair density of 86 to 1 in2 (+11%) for taking Propecia,
- decrease in hair density on 1 in2 -21 (-2.7%) for placebo group,
- new hair growth in 48% taking Propecia,
- new hair growth at 7% for the placebo group,
- 30% (from 48%) is slightly noticeable new hair growth for host Propecia,
- 18% (from 48%) a marked increase in new hair for taking Propecia,
- 6% (from 7%) is slightly noticeable new hair growth for placebo,
- 1% (from 7%) a marked increase in new hair for the placebo group.
The second year of tests showed no further increase in density of hair. But there were further improvements in the general condition of the hair, which is associated with an increase of anagenic phase and the diameter of the hair shaft. Participants receiving placebo continued to lose hair.
